Kurt Warner Goes To San Francisco 49ers

As sick as it makes me, there are reports that free agent Kurt Warner could possibly sign with the hated San Francisco 49ers. These reports are coming from ESPN and the San Francisco PressDemocrat.com. The PressDemocrat has these comments:

The 49ers have a "legitimate shot" to land veteran free-agent quarterback Kurt Warner, who led the Arizona Cardinals to the Super Bowl this season, a league source said. A second source with knowledge of the situation said there have been no serious contract discussions.

No visit has been scheduled that would bring together 49ers representatives and Warner. One source said the 49ers might get together with Warner in the next day or two. If the discussions heat up, the 49ers could send a group of three, including Mike Singletary and general Scot McCloughan, to Arizona to visit with Warner, the source said.

As hard as it was to watch Isaac Bruce go over to the San Francisco 49ers can you even imagine for one second the thought of Kurt Warner playing for the whiners? Maybe we should all send Billy Bidwell a few more of our hard earned dollars so he can sign Kurt and save us from this possible travesty! I have to go throw up now, so please stay tuned...

St. Louis Rams Sign Center Jason Brown

The St. Louis Rams have signed Baltimore Ravens free agent center Jason Brown to a five year deal. This makesJason Brown the second round of the upcoming 2009 NFL Draft very interesting for the Rams. I thought a great pick would be Center Max Unger from Oregon or Alex Mack from California, now the Rams will turn in a new direction. Hopefully Jason Brown will produce more than the Rams big free agent pick up Jacob Bell did in 2008. Steve Spagnuolo has said that he would like to see the Rams get larger along both lines. Jason Brown is a very large 6-3 320 pound center, from a physical Baltimore Ravens franchise. Brown was the Baltimore Ravens 4th round selection in the 2005 NFL Draft. Brown has started every game for the Ravens over the last two years, and in addition is only 25 years old. On the surface this seems like a good move by the Rams. Also for all of the doubting Thomas's out there this proves a player will leave an 11-5 team to come to a 2-14 team. It is simple it is called money. Brett Romberg and Nick Leckey have played rotating chairs with the current Rams starting center job. Both are older and smaller than Brown. Here is to hoping the Rams are going to build a powerful NFC East type of offensive line. What are your thoughts on this signing?

Who Will The Rams Pick Up?

NFL Free AgentsWell the clock struck midnight on Thursday February 26th and the meat market; I mean 2009 NFL free agency period had begun. With hundreds of hot prospects out there who do you want, and can you afford them? They all come with a lot of risks and possible baggage. Why would they leave their current luxurious homes to come to ours? Can we possibly bargain for a lower price or at least negotiate a longer term deal? Which agent would you like to see the St. Louis Rams pick up?

He's Just Not That Into You

He's Just Not That Into YouSo when I say "He's Just Not That Into You" I Stlvinnie am once again saying I want the St. Louis Rams to stay away from Andre Smith in the 2009 NFL Draft. I don't believe the Rams can take the chance on someone like Andre Smith. The Rams have to hit thier mark with the #2 pick overall. Chris Long was considered a safe choice last year and he stepped right in and started 16 games, had 40 tackles including 4 sacks. I look for Chris to take a big step forward in 2009. Andre Smith makes me think of Glenn Dorsey and Vernon Gholston from the 2008 NFL Draft. Like Glenn Dorsey I believe Andre Smith will continue to have weight issues which will lead to health problems. In addition I believe Billy Devaney and the Rams will stay away from any character issue players. Andre Smith was suspended from the 2009 Sugar Bowl when he apparently signed with an agent. I am not sure where or if Andre is getting any guidance because he is making some bad decisions. Let's remember Andre still had his Senior Year left to get in better NFL shape and to learn another whole year under Nick Saban. Now during the 2009 NFL Combine Andre went AWOL after originally showing up. Why? Since Smith is apparently not in great shape and does not want to hurt his draft status he will not work out. However he went to the combine for the offical weigh-in and then was a no-show because he flew back home. The story is even stranger when you hear that Smith had flown back to Atlanta to work out with his trainer. Are we to believe that he could not work out enough over the past two months to attend the combine but he had to fly out bright and early to get back to work with his trainer. All of this says be afraid, be very afraid. We once again implore the Rams to stay away from drafting Andre Smith. Eugene Monroe who kept last years first round draft pick Brandon Albert from playing Tackle at Virginia is by far a much safer pick and possibly the better player anyway. Monroe is a solid 6'6" and 315 pounds and played all four years at Virginia. Whatever the Rams decide to do we hope it does not include drafting Smith.

2009 NFL Franchise Tags

Fourteen teams have placed their franchise tags. The St. Louis Rams who cut Corey Chavous a week ago haveAtogwe used their franchise tag on Free Safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. With Atogwe in the fold and Todd Johnson able to play Strong Safety, the Rams will now set their sites in trying to sign Cornerback Ron Bartell. The Rams who are in desparate need of upgrading their linebacker core have seen 3 top linebackers in Karlos Dansby, Terrell Suggs, and Leroy Hill already tagged. The free agent period should be very interesting. Definition of franchise Tag:

1. A designation given to a player by his team to keep him from leaving via free agency. According to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, the player must be paid the average salary of the top five players at his position.

2. A term used to refer to a superstar player who is invaluable to his team.

St. Louis Rams Free Agent List

The St. Louis Rams 2009 NFL Draft will heavily depend on the 2009 NFL Free agent period which will begin on February 27th. The current list of St. Louis Rams Free agents is below. Who do you think the Rams should hold on to? The Rams placed their franchise tag on Oshiomogho Atogwe this past week. Atogwe will make 6.34 million in 2009, while the Rams are trying to sign him to a long term deal. With Steve Spagnolo and the Rams new coaching staff in place I look for most of these players to be let go. Other than Ron Bartell done of the others should be untouchable. The Rams need a serious upgrade to the current talent on their roster. I look forward to seeing the moves they make prior to the draft.

St. Louis Rams Select Andre Smith

Andre SmithWell if you go by all of the early mock drafts it does appear the St. Louis Rams will draft left tackle Andre Smith from Alabama. The results below are from HailRedskins.com and are a combination of the 97 latest mock drafts from 2009. As you can see he is still the clear #1 choice from the experts to the novice. However as you already know we do NOT believe there is any chance of the Rams drafting Andre Smith. I believe the Rams will select Michael Crabtree and I will stay by that at least until after the free agent period. Billy Devaney proved to St. Louis Rams fans last year that the Rams are into character as much as talent when they selected Donnie Avery from Houston in the 2nd round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Andre Smith was suspended prior to the 2009 Sugar Bowl due to alleged dealings with a sports agent. Smith can absolutely maul while run blocking but his huge size and slow footwork clearly make him a better right tackle to me. You simply do not draft a right tackle with the #2 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Andre Smith - 52
Michael Crabtree - 15
Eugene Monroe - 13
Michael Oher - 7
Matt Stafford - 4
Malcolm Jenkins - 3
Aaron Curry - 2
Jason Smith - 1

Best 2009 Super Bowl Commercials

What was your favorite Super Bowl Commercial during Sunday's Super Bowl? This is always a great topic after the game. There were a lot of duds this year but a few caught my eye. I have to go with the Etrade Babies as #1. A solid number 2 was the Doritos Snow Globe commercial. For everyone that works in an office you know you would love to do this. To round out our top three we will go with the Hulu Alec Baldwin commercial which I thought was the most clever. It as hard to not select either of the GoDaddy.com commercials but we managed. The Doritos Bus commercial was also good but we did not want to pick two from the same company. What was your favorite?

Will You Win A Super Bowl Square?

Today is a great day for all football fans, the day of a Superbowl. Parties will be going on all around the country. As part of these parties many people will be buying and playing SuperBowl Squares. This event is for entertainment purposes only of course. The results below are provided to us by BearGogglesOn the home of our Fansided Blog Network Chicago Bears Blog. The results below do not include the New England Patroits, New York Giants Superbowl from last year. Therefore the square below will show how many times you would have won with those combinations of numbers at the end of the 164 quarters of play. As good as ending scores of 0-0 and 7-0 are they still never win more than 7% of the time. It is very suprising to see through 41 Superbowls 44 of the combinations have never hit! Also the numbers 5 & 8 are killers. So no matter what play for fun and don't bet the house that you will win a square. Also do not shoot any kickers tomorrow, we have all been there.

Kurt Warner Superbowl MVP

Who can forget the perfect pass from Kurt Warner to Ricky Proehl in the NFC Championship game leading us to a 11-6 victory. Who can ever forget when Kurt threw the game-winning 73-yard TD pass to Isaac Bruce with 1:54 to play in the Superbowl XXXIV. I will certainly will never forget, nor should any St Louis Rams fan. Kurt Warner should be hands down a Hall of Famer with or without a win on Sunday.

It's All About The Benjamins

Do to the apparent lack of franchise players in the upcoming 2009 NFL Draft everyone and their brother want the St. Louis Rams to trade down. well that is easier said than done. Below you will see the 2008 NFL Draft picks and the contracts they received. As you can see the top 5 players in last years draft received more in guaranteed money than 22 of the remaining draft picks total contracts! Therefore teams will only move up into the top 5 for a franchise top player, at a position that they strongly need. The New England Patriots landed Jerod Mayo last year for 19 million dollars and only had to give him a 5 year deal, another plus to picking later in the draft. Jerod Mayo won the AP Defensive Player of the Year award, and was 5th in the NFL with 100 solo tackles. So on the surface and in the wallet that was a much better pick than Chris Long at this time. It was easy for the Patriots, he fell to their position and with their great scouting system and defensive scheme he was a tremendous pick. The Rams can probably get value from an OT picked in the 10-20 range like a Jason Smith for 30 million less than the #2 pick will cost, but who will let them move down?

Our 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl Thoughts

The South beat the North 35-18 Saturday in the 2009 Under Armour Senior Bowl in Mobile Alabama. The MVP of the game was Pat White from West Virginia who was only 4 of 10 passing for 95 yards and 1 TD. Here are a few of our thoughts after watching the game:

  • The QB class in the 2009 NFL Draft appears to be very weak. I see why Mark Sanchez from USC is going to come out. Graham Harrell from Texas Tech was just awful in this game and I can't believe a team would even draft him after this display and how he has looked in the Senior Bowl 2-a-days. John Parker Wilson from Alabama was definately the best QB from the Senior Bowl but that is not saying too much. John has an ok arm and is quick on his feet but did he really need to do much with the running game and defense that Alabama has? He would fit in good with a team like the Ravens but there are not many teams out there like the Ravens.

  • Michael Oher was a disappointment during practice all week and in this game. Oher looked "ok" on pass blocking but he is far from dominating and is very inconsistent. After what I have seen this week Oher is not worthy of the St. Louis Rams #2 draft pick. Devaney stayed away from character issues in the 2008 NFL Draft so I do not believe the Rams will take Oher, especially not at #2. Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe are better bets at this time.

  • Are the USC linebackers good, or good as a unit? Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing, and Clay Mathews combined for 4 solo tackles, an assist, and a forced fumble but for the most part were no factor in the game. When teams are as loaded as USC I alwas wonder if the players are as great as they look if they were individuals playing elsewhere.

  • Juaquin Iglesias, Patrick Turner, Brian Robiskie, and Derrick Williams are smooth receivers with good hands but they are not in the same class as Michael Crabtree, Jeremy Maclin, or Percy Harvin.

  • I would never draft a DT in the first round of the draft. B.J. Raji who was dominate all week was shutdown by the South offensive line. DTs make 1 or 2 tackles per game. You must get more value than that for a first round draft pick especailly if you team needs a lot of help.

  • There are a lot of solid running backs in the upcoming draft and the Rams could use a solid backup for Steven Jackson. Andre Brown from North Carolina State looked very good in this game and I still like Rashad Jennings from Liberty.

  • Our Center prospects Alex Mack from California and Max Unger from Oregon rotated between Center and Guard during the game. Both can get down field and block at the second level. Eric Wood from Louisville also played for the South and played Guard the entire game. He pulls very well and looks quick. Any of these 3 could possibly be drafted by the Rams in the second round.

  • We will finish with what has happened to Mizzou? Chase Daniel went from a possible Heisman candidate to a QB that will probably not be drafted. Now Saturday after a bad week in practice William Moore left with a bad ankle in the 1st Quarter after missing a couple of tackles. On the inside Ziggy Hood was a non-factor throughout the game at DT.

2009 Senior Bowl North Roster

Marvin Lewis will coach the North team today in the Under Armour 2009 Senior Bowl from Mobile Alabama. The game will be on the NFL Network starting at 6PM CST. This will be a great chance to take a look at some of the players the St. Louis Rams are scouting for the upcoming 2009 NFL Draft. Alex Mack and Max Unger both possible second round picks of the Rams will be playing center for the North. B.J. Raji is a dominating Nose Tackle and fits better in a 3-4 but he is fun to watch, nobody has been able to block him this week in practice. If your looking for a later round QB prospect both Graham Harrell from Texas Tech and Rhett Bomar from Sam Houston State (transfer from Oklahoma) will showcase their skills as well.

2009 Senior Bowl South Roster

The Cincinnati Bengals coaching staff along with Jack Del Rio from the Jacksonville Jaguars will coach the South team today in the Under Armour 2009 Senior Bowl from Mobile Alabama. The game will be on the NFL Network starting at 6PM CST. This will be a great chance to take a look at some of the players the St. Louis Rams are scouting for the upcoming 2009 NFL Draft. I want to take a look at Rashad Jennings the fast powerful running back from Liberty. The Rams are in need of a quality back up running back. Rams fans are easily satisfied by players like Kenneth Darby picked up off the street. It is time for the Rams to have higher quality players on their roster from 1 to 53. This will also be a great chance to watch Michael Oher from Mississippi against the best. On defense the trio of USC linebackers will all be in this game Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews and Rey Maualuga.

The St. Louis Rams could quiet possibly be after OT Andre Smith, or WR Michael Crabtree with the second pick in the 2009 NFL draft. OT Eben Britton from Arizona could also be a possible choice with the Rams second round selection. We will have to wait until April 25th to find out but it is fun to think about it now. Are any of these players on your wish list?

Steve Spagnuolo To Pluck Eagles & Giants

I still can't believe the St. Louis Rams hired Steve Spagnuolo. Things will move quickly now. The Rams will introduce Steve Spagnuolo at a news conference at noon ET on Monday. Spagnuolo will now start trying to get his coaching staff in here and prepare for the upcoming Senior Bowl next weekend. The 2009 NFL Scouting Combine is exactly one month away and the Rams will need to once again improve their roster. Profootballtalk believes that Spagnuolo will be after some Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants coaches. Eagles Quarterback coach Pat Shurmur wide receivers coach David Culley are rumored as possibly being in line for the OC job with the Rams. Giants linebackers coach Bill Sheridan may be the selection for DC.

Whoever it is I am hopeful that it will be the right choice. It is time to change the Rams losing culture. It is awesome to see them choose a coach from a winning team for a change. Spagnuolo went to superbowls while with the Eagles and Giants, and the Giants players are gushing about him since the news that the Rams hired him.

Once again way to go Rams!!!
