St. Louis Rams Select Keith Null

keith-nullWith the 196th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The St. Louis Rams have selected Keith Null QB, out of West Texas A&M. At 6'3" and 220 pounds Null is a solid drop back pocket passer. As a Junior Keith Null set school records with 4,134 passing yards and 41 touchdowns through the air in 2007. For a team with plenty of holes this is another player that at best will be a game day scratch or on the scout team in 2009. The Rams need players now, I am not a fan of this selection. With Curtis Painter and Mike Reilly still on the board among others this seems like another reach by the Rams. ESPN had Null listed as the 37th ranked QB in the draft.

Rashad Jennings is still available. I am still waiting...

From
CDSDraft
:
Keith has been a very fine QB for one of DII's top programs for the past couple of years. He capped a fine collegiate career by being declared the MVP of the 2009 Cactus Bowl which pits the best DII players in the country against one another.

From
FantasyFootballJungle
:

Keith Null possesses the measurables of a drop-back passer. He shows improvement in working through receiver progressions and decision making. He does possess touch when throwing the eight and nine routes.

From
SI
:

Super-productive quarterback who lacks the arm strength to play at the next level. Sells ball fakes, looks off the safety, and knows where his receivers are on the on the field. Effectively leads the offense, shows great patience as well as poise in the pocket, and waits for receivers to come free. Throws with a fluid delivery and accurate in the short and intermediate field.

St. Louis Rams Select Chris Ogbonnaya

With the 211th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The St. Louis Rams have selected Chris Ogbonnaya RB, out of Texas. At 6' and 220 pounds Chris Ogbonnaya does not appear to be the backup to Steven Jackson that I have been looking for all day. With only 66 carries in his first three years at the University of Texas I would once again say that this is a reach for the Rams. Chris had 15 carries against Oklahoma this year, and that was his career high. I see Chris being no more than a special teams player at best. I hate to say it but I don't think the Rams got much done on day two of the draft. I can't believe they did not pick up a big power back for short yardage and to spell Jackson. I also am very surprised the Rams did not go out and get a hammer of a Safety. I don't want to complain in April, but they will have to show me something.

From DraftCountdown:

Naturally athletic...Very good size and bulk...Strong and runs hard...A patient runner...Excellent hands...Runs great routes...Above average blocker...Smart...Special teams ability...A hard worker...Team leader.

From NFL.com

Ogbonnaya only managed 73 rushes for 373 yards and four scores n 2008, but his 46 catches for 540 yards and three touchdowns also caught scouts' eyes. His play on coverage units also makes him a draft-able prospect.

St. Louis Rams Select Foster Brooks

foster-brooksWith the 160th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The St. Louis Rams have selected Foster Brooks WR out of North Carolina. At 6'1' and 210 pounds is a large receiver the Rams could use. Foster Brooks is the 24th ranked WR on

Draftcountdown.coms
player rankings. This seems like another reach on Day 2 by the Rams. Foster Brooks was the 3rd best receiver on North Carolina. Foster has size and athletic ability but looks like a bit of a project to me at this point. At 2-14 the Rams really do not have time to take on projects. They know more than I, so let's hope Foster is the real deal. The Rams now only have two picks remaining and we still have not selected a legitimate backup for Steven Jackson. Rashad Jennings is still available. I am still waiting... Duke Robinson also would have provided the Rams with a Guard of the future.

From

Draftcountdown.com
:

Very smooth and an outstanding natural athlete...Great size and bulk with long arms...Terrific timed speed...Explosive with a burst...Good hands and ball skills...Elusive and runs well after the catch...Will stop on a dime and change directions...Could also contribute on special teams...Hard worker...Humble and a team player...Has a ton of upside.

From

The Sporting News
:

Scouts like his quickness, athleticism, explosiveness, hands and running ability after the catch. After being regarded as a fifth- or sixth-round prospect at the end of the season, he has moved up to a potential third- or fourth-rounder on the draft boards of some teams.

From

NFL.com
:

He averaged 32 catches for 412 yards and two touchdowns over his career (30-334-2 in 2008), occasionally making a big play but never becoming "the guy." His triangle numbers intrigue scouts, who acknowledge his unique athleticism. Had an arm span of 32 inches and a hand span of 9 5/8 inches at the combine.

St. Louis Rams Select Dorell Scott

With the 103rd overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The St. Louis Rams have selected Dorell Scott DT out of Clemson. Scott played nose guard @ Clemson at 6'3' and 313 pounds. Scott is the 11th ranked DT according to Draftcountdown.com. The Rams selected Scott in the area he was projected to go. Overall, sites believe he is an underacheiver but could be a steal if he developes. The Rams have had trouble selecting interior lineman over the past few years. This pick could be a reach. I really wanted the Rams to select RB Rashad Jennings of Liberty, or S Rashad Johnson from Alabama in the 3rd round. Jason Phillips ILB TCU is also still available. I know we already picked up Laurinaitis, but you can never have too many great players. Phillips is also a great special teams player. With Chris Draft and Pisa Tinoisamoa getting older and often injured Phillips would be a solid selection. I believe the Rams must find a solid backup for Steven Jackson with one of their remaining picks.

View Video of Dorell Scott here

From Draftcountdown.com:

Good athlete...Ideal size and bulk...Terrific speed and quickness with a burst...Very strong...Stout at the point of attack...Can occupy multiple blockers...Uses his hands well...Shows the ability to shed blocks...Can shoot gaps and disturb passing lanes...Able to penetrate...Has upside.

From cbssports.com:

Entering his senior campaign at Clemson as an Outland Trophy candidate, Scott was sidelined by a strained knee and didn't break out until the last few games.

From NFL.com:

The 2008 Outland Trophy Watch List member never got untracked as a senior. He sat out the Duke game and missed most of the Florida State clash with a knee sprain. He delivered 39 tackles (29 solos) with 7.5 stops for loss, including one sack and added ten pressures.

St. Louis Rams Select Bradley Fletcher

With the 66th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. The St. Louis Rams have selected Bradley Fletcher CB, out of Iowa. At 6' and 200 pounds Bradley Fletcher is a pretty good size corner back with pretty good speed. Bradley was a red shirt in 2004, and played 4 season at Iowa playing in 47 games. I hope this is not the start of the rams reaching. Bradley was suspended for the 2007 season opener after being arrested for drunk driving, which goes against the Rams safe choices of late. I hope the Rams wanted Shonn Greene and had to hurry and took Fletcher, that is the only reason I see for this pick. I thought Spagnuolo would build the lines up and maybe get a heavy hitting Safety if Possible. With Jarron Gilbert DE San Jose State, Michael Johnson DE Georgia Tech, Rashad Johnson S Alabama, & Louis Vasquez Guard Texas Tech, among others still on the board this pick seems a little off to me. With Tye Hill and Justin King hopefully at full strength this is just an extra body.

View Bradley Fletcher Video

From Draftcountdown:

Outstanding athlete...Prototypical height and bulk...Long arms...Good speed...Excellent leaper...Great strength...Physical and aggressive...A reliable tackler...Agile with good change of direction...Decent hands and ball skills..Good special teamer...Versatile...Still has lots of upside.

From NFL.com

Always the good soldier since arriving on campus in 2004, he toiled on special teams as a redshirt freshman. He started four games while sharing left cornerback duties with Adam Shada as a sophomore and then shifted to the right side in 2007. He spent his junior campaign alternating with Charles Godfrey, picking up four more starting assignments.

From CBSSports:

Key and Diagnostic Skills: Fletcher plays more like a safety than a cornerback. He has good physicality behind his hits and does much better vs. plays in front of him than when turned on the backfield. He shows good awareness and can see the route develop quickly. He anticipates the path of the ball in flight well, doing a nice job of extending and reaching around to break up the pass. He is a bit late seeing the receiver on the out routes when he uses the shuffle technique, but does a good job of reacting to the runs along the perimeter. GRADE: 6.5

Our Draft Day Predictions

Well it is almost time to head over to Russell Athletic Training Center (formerly Rams Park) and watch the 2009 NFL Draft. It should be an exciting day. As much as I would love the Rams to dump Marc Bulger and draft Mark Sanchez I just do not think the Rams will do it. The Rams tend to play it safe, will Steve Spagnuolo bring a new attitude? It will be a long day but barring a trade the Rams will only have two new players at the end of the day. Below are the selections I would like to see. Again this assumes they do not make a play for Sanchez or make any trades.

Round 1 - #2 Overall - Jason Smith OT Baylor

Round 2 - #35 Overall - James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State

I feel the Rams will play it safe today. Both players fill huge needs. Jason Smith should be a very good tackle and could be down right nasty at RT, if Barron is switching to LT. Laurinaitis would be a great value, remember he has been projected in the top 10 before. The longer he played, and in a down year in the Big 10 he has went unnoticed. We could put him right between Spoon, and Psia and start to shore up the defense.

Player we would love to draft. Other than Mark Sanchez I really like Connor Barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati. I think he will be a fabulous player. He is a tweener, he could be a HUGE backer or a small pass rusher. Both things the Rams could use. I don't think the Rams will go after him but he is someone to watch.

We Analyze the 2009 St. Louis Rams Schedule

Well the start of the 2009 St. Louis Rams schedule is not exactly what we had hoped but it is not too bad either. The 2009 NFL schedule was released on Tuesday and the Rams will start with two straight on the road at Seattle and Washington. Then the Rams will return for their home opener against the Green Bay Packers. Game four will be on the road again against the San Francisco 49ers. Overall you have to be pretty pleased about the schedule. The Rams will get to jell on the road early and the second half of the season holds 50% division games as well as 5 of the 8 being at the Edward Jones Dome. The bye week comes at week 9 which is probably the best option. After the bye comes the key part of the Rams 2009 schedule as they get to play three straight home games against the Saints, Cardinals and Seahawks. Overall I am happy about the upcoming schedule, what are your thoughts?

2009 St. Louis Rams schedule features:

  • 3 of first 4 on road

  • 4 of 5 at home mid-season

  • Twice back to back road games

  • 4 division games last half of season

  • No prime time games

  • Bye at mid-season

  • West coast to east coast once

Props To Donnie Fandango

Prior to tonight's NHL Playoff opener between the St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks I would like to give a shout out to Donnie Fandango of 105.7 The Point. During my drive to work each day I love to hear the passion in Donnie's voice for the St. Louis Blues. My favorite is his hatred and contempt for the Sedin twins, and when he calls them douche bags.
It sounded like there were 20,000 Donnies at the game Friday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. I love when fans bring passion to the game, and aren't worried about texting, or where they are going on the landing after the game. We have been waiting years to watch the Blues back in the playoffs and tonight is the night. Do you bleed blue?
Watch your St. Louis Blues tonight!

Douche Bag (plural douche bags)
  • A bag for holding the water or fluid used in douching.
    (vulgar, pejorative)

  • A worthless person.

T.J. Oshie Scores Goal Of The Year!

NHL.com had a fans choice award poll for goal of the year. T.J. Oshie's goal against the Vancouver Canucks has won goal of the year! T.J. scored 14 goals and 25 assist, for 39 points in only 57 games played. Oshie has also been hot of late with 14 points in his last 15 games. For us St. Louis Blues fans that watch Oshie, it is not all about the points it is more his hard nose playing style and the fantastic moves and plays he can make on the ice. Take a look at the video of this fantastic goal, as Oshie takes the puck from just outside the blue line through 5 Canucks, and puts the puck into an empty net after faking everyone out.

Rams 2009 Season Begins Today!

Today is the start of the 2009 NFL season. At 6PM St. Louis time, the NFL will release the 2009 NFL schedule. Sometimes these schedules can make or break a team. Last year the St. Louis Rams started against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants and never really recovered, as they started the season 0-4. This year the schedule can be just as important. I would like to start at home opening day against the San Francisco 49ers, then go on the road against the Detroit Lions and then back home against the Seattle Seahawks. Will we get that lucky, find out tonight at 6PM on the NFL Network, or check NFL.com. I would love to have a great start like 3-0, 3-0 in the conference, and 2-0 in the division. NFL teams can build a lot of momentum from great starts.

Stay tuned...

St. Louis Blues Capture 6th Seed

St. Louis BluesThe St. Louis Blues captured the 6th seed in the Western Conference of the NHL, with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday evening. This has just been an incredible run for the Blues who were 15th in the conference in late February. Chris Mason was once again dominating with 28 saves, in his 33rd consecutive start. The Blues have been the best team in hockey since the All-Star break going 25-9-7, and 9-1-1 in their last 11. Nobody in the NHL would want to face the Blues right now. That job will be given to the Vancouver Canucks who won the Northwest Division with 100 points. The Canucks are also hot going 6-3-1 in their last 10 games and passing the Calgary Flames late in the season to take the division. This should be a great series which will feature Chris Mason against Roberto Luongo.

Let's stay behind the St. Louis Blues. If you are interested in seeing the Blues in the upcoming NHL playoffs click below!

St. Louis Rams Strength Of Schedule

With the upcoming release of the NFL schedule, dates and times this week, we thought it would be a good time to once again look at the St. Louis Rams strength of schedule for 2009. The Rams have the 10th easiest schedule based on winning percentage of opponents in 2008. The Rams will play teams that combined to go 119-137 in 2008. They will play 5 teams that made the playoffs, in addition to 7 that had losing records. We will know more on Tuesday when the official NFL schedule is released, but I would imagine the start of the season will be much easier than it was in 2008 when the Rams had to start off against the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants. We will report again on Tuesday hopefully with more good news for the Rams.

St. Louis Rams Have Their Pick Of Tackles

Mike Florio of Profootballtalk.com believes the Detroit Lions will be selecting Matt Stafford from Georgia as the #1 selection in the upcoming 2009 NFL draft.
Florio says he heard from a source the Lions are locked in on Matt Stafford.
Florio says the Lions can't take the PR hit of moving down in the draft by skipping on their No. 1 pick. Because if it's a bust, that's a true disaster.

This should be very good news for the St. Louis Rams. The Rams should have their pick of tackle, and it seems at the moment that is between Jason Smith from Baylor or Eugene Monroe from Virginia. In addition if Stafford is off the board there may be a few teams that will want to trade up to acquire Matt Sanchez. Hopefully the Rams will be taking all calls and still get the player they really want in the end. I still do not see the Rams taking anything other than a OT with their first round pick.

St. Louis Rams Trade For Laurent Robinson

The St. Louis Rams traded for Laurent Robinson of the Atlanta Falcons. The Rams swapped their 5th at 6th round draft picks in the 2009 NFL Draft. The Rams will be moving down from pick #138 to pick #160 in the 5th round. Robinson is a big receiver at 6'2" and about 200 pounds. In addition he is only 23 years old. The Rams continue to attempt to get younger, stronger, and faster. Robinson could be a steal for the Rams. Robinson was a 3rd round draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2007 NFL Draft. Due to a hamstring injury Robinson only had 5 catches in 2008 and was placed on IR, but he did produce 37 receptions for 437 yards and a TD in 2007. Billy Devaney was with the Atlanta Falcons when the Falcons drafted Robinson, so you know he is a big fan. In the video below you will see the size and speed that Robinson displayed at Illinois State.

St. Louis Rams Sign Kyle Boller

The St. Louis Rams have signed Kyle Boller. Finally the Rams may have someone to push Marc Bulger. Kyle

[caption id="attachment_1268" align="alignright" width="195" caption="Kyle Boller with Tara Reid"]Kyle Boller with Tara Reid[/caption]

Boller is a former first round draft pick of the Baltimore Ravens. We now know the Rams will not be signing the "Gus Bus" Gus Frerotte which should be great news to Rams fans. Kyle Boller previously play in Baltimore with the Rams new center Jason Brown. So on the surface this is another solid move by the new St. Louis Rams front office. Boller is only 27 and should be a huge upgrade over Trent Green. No offense to Trent Green but we have to have a backup that we are not afraid to put in a game, and also a backup that has the ability to push Marc Bulger for the starting spot on the roster. Once Joe Flacco came to town, Boller was never able to get on the field in 2008.
St. Louis Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said:

"We are happy to add Kyle to our roster. We feel that he will be a valuable addition to our team.”

At 6'3" and 220 pounds Kyle is a solid pocket passer. He was known for his outstanding arm coming out of California. Kyle never really had many offensive threats at Baltimore other than Derek Mason. I believe Kyle to be a good QB in the NFL and still has an upside that may not have been seen yet. I can see some fear put into other teams when Boller drops back to throw a deep ball to Donnie Avery.

Off the field Kyle has been linked to Tara Reid & Petra Nemcova.

There is mad Blues love pouring out of St. Louis right now. The Blues 5-4 victory over the hated Detroit Red Wings Thursday night was one of the most exciting wins for the Blues in years. If the Blues can win their remaining games they are in the playoffs. If they lose one or more they will need some help.

Worst Man Drafted - Tournament Update

Our friends back over at NFLMOCKS have their server back up. The 1st round of the Worst Man Draft Tournament is still going on. I supplied the worst draft picks in St. Louis Rams Draft History. I selected L.P. and Trung Candidate. So head on over to NFLMOCKS and make sure to get your votes in. We could be the proud owners of one of the biggest draft busts in NFL history. L.P. is in the South Region and up 92-8% currently over puff-puff-pass Ricky Williams. It looks like he will take on Cade McNown in round 2. Never assume a victory, so get on over there and vote. Trung Candidate is in the East Bracket and is the #14 seed and is taking on Jim Drunkenmiller. Trung is trailing, I am not quiet sure that is fair. Trung did nothing in the league. We still have time to pull him through! If Trung can squeak by he will most likely take on Jack Thompson. Who can forget Trung's 3 carries for 6 yards in 2000!

In addition we will get to see Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons come to town. Hopefully we will get to see him play some. Road games include the New York Jets, and Cincinnati Bengals. Not too many big stars to check out in these contests. Let's just hope the Rams stay injury free and get their star players ready for season action. Hopefully the new coaching staff will put an end to the marshmallow soft type preseason play we saw under Scott Linehan.

Week 2 - vs. Atlanta Falcons

Week 3 - at Cincinnati Bengals
