Rams Bradford Finishes Minicamp

The Rams had their rookie minicamp Friday through Sunday at Rams Park. There are not a ton of reports in and the public is not allowed to view the camp so we have limited information so far. It appears that Sam Bradford performed well and the Rams continue to state that they will not rush Bradford into the starting lineup. Below are some comments we were able to gather about how well Sam Bradford did this weekend.

Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur on Bradford’s showing:
“I think Sam did a terrific job,” Shurmur said. “This is the first time he is hearing things and all of the reasons for drafting him were obvious. He’s very smart. He’s got a great command of the huddle, he’s got great attention to detail and he’s very talented. You take the talent and the work hard and I think he progressed well in five practices.”

Coach Steve Spagnuolo complimented the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback's poise and take-charge attitude.

Vinnie Iyer Sportingnews:
Bradford's first day of NFL practice took him somewhere he'd rarely been in college—under center. The No. 1 overall pick operated primarily in the shotgun in the spread offense at Oklahoma. But perhaps in a conscious effort to get Bradford acclimated to the footwork and drops he'll need in the NFL, the Rams had him take all of his snap under center in the portion of Friday's practice open to the media. Bradford botched one center exchange but threw the ball accurately in blustery winds.

Rams Trade For Bears Safety Kevin Payne

The St. Louis Rams have traded for safety Kevin Payne from the Chicago Bears. The Rams have given the Bears an undisclosed 2011 draft pick in return for Payne. Kevin Payne from Louisiana-Monroe was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL Draft. Payne has played in 32 games starting in 22 of those. Payne has 195 tackles, 4 interceptions and 1 sack in his three year NFL career. Payne played at both free and strong safety during the 2009 season. OJ Atogwe should sign his tender on June 1, but the Rams still have a definite need for secondary depth and Payne should help. At 6' and 210 pounds Payne is still not the thumper we need in the secondary but the Rams do continue to add players that should be able to contribute.
