St. Louis Rams Sign CB Rod Hood

Well it appears the St. Louis Rams at least noticed that rookie WR Torrey Smith, who didn’t have an NFL catch prior to Sunday torched Justin King for three touchdown catches because they signed veteran CB Rod Hood on Tuesday. Hood has prior experience with the Philadelphia Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, and Tennessee Titans.

For a team that currently has Justin King, Bradley Fletcher, Al Harris & Josh Gordy as their four cornerbacks I am glad the Rams picked up someone. Hood has played in 93 NFL games and two Super Bowls with the Eagles and Cardinals. Hood is 5-11, 200 pounds and has good speed. The Rams will most likely press him into action on Sunday against the Washington Redskins. The Rams created a roster opening by releasing 2011 5th round draft pick safety Jermale Hines. Another wasted pick if you are keeping count.

St. Louis Rams vs. Baltimore Ravens Grades

St. Louis Rams vs. Baltimore Ravens Grades

Quarterbacks - D
Alright here is the deal this team has to make some plays and that falls on the QB. I know the defense let up 37 points but there is no rule that we can't score first. Sam Bradford was 1 of 7 for 4 yards and was sacked twice in the first quarter! 29th in QB rating just not good enough.

Runningbacks - C
We dress Steven Jackson but he gets only 4 carries yet he is on the field in the 4th quarter. We need players that can play 60 minutes. 112 yards on 26 carries but 22 of those yards were from Sam Bradford. Cadillac was ok but nothing spectacular.

Wide Receivers - D
The Rams completed 12 passes to the wide receivers but other than the 34 yard TD pass from Bradford to Gibson on a scramble while down 30-0 they did not produce much (11 catches for 83 yards). The Rams wide outs are not getting open or separating from coverage.

Offensive Line - F
Lets quit covering for these guys. Three high priced free agents and two top draft picks on this line and week in and week out they disappoint. Sam Bradford once again took a pounding and was sacked five times! The Rams ran for 4.3 yards per carry but there are no gapping holes that is for sure. Also lets work on blitz pickup shall we.

Special Teams C
The score was 37-7 so special teams were a non factor. Donnie Jones averaged 46.5 per punt and Josh Brown had no field goals. Rams kick coverage was average at best but not much of a factor.

Defense - F
The Ravens put up 37 points, had 553 total yards, scored seven times and missed two field goals. The Rams defense gave the team no chance to win as the Ravens put up over 400 yards in the first half alone. Justin King should have earned a plane ticket home based on his play.

Coaching - F
Where to start. The Rams seemed unprepared. The Ravens known for ball control had a game plan and it was to use their speed against the Rams weakest corner. Lance Kendricks on an end-around? If Steven Jackson is hurt let him rest. Screens can work against a top pass rush like the Ravens yet the Rams completed one pass to the runningbacks for 4 total yards. Can the Rams coaches ever improve the line play?

Rams vs. Ravens Game Preview

Rams vs. Ravens Game Preview

After two mistake filled double digit losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants the St. Louis Rams face a near must win game against the Baltimore Ravens (1-1) Sunday at the Edward Jones Dome. It appears the Rams will possibly go into the game without the services of Steven Jackson and Cadillac Williams who have injury concerns. If that is indeed true the Rams will be trying to run the rock against the Ravens defense with Jerious Norwood and Quinn Porter. Norwood was only given 3 carries against the Giants last week and Porter has no lifetime carries in the NFL, so all I can say is I hope Cadillac Williams can find the magic water before game
time.

The Rams appear to already be digging their own hole and returning to their losing ways. The Rams have started 0-2 six straight seasons. The Rams have not had a winning record since 2003 almost a decade ago. The Rams are in the bottom five in scoring and scoring defense. Sure we have Sam Bradford but we need some wins and some excitement to jump start this franchise. Even though we are only two weeks into the season it appears obvious the Rams failed to surround Sam with any play makers. We are lucky that Danario Alexander is local and never gave up and the Rams finally gave him a chance.

On the bright side the Baltimore Ravens are not very explosive and win many games on the strength of their defense. The Ravens will look to bound the ball inside with Ray Rice possibly the best all around runningback in the NFL. Once they establish Rice Joe Flacco will use play action and try to go deep to Anquan Boldin and Lee Evans. Luckily for the Rams Evans is out with an ankle injury. The Ravens had a great home win against their rival the Pittsburgh Steelers and then laid an egg on the road at Tennessee. Which Ravens squad will show up this week?

On defense the Ravens are going to cause the Rams offensive line a lot of problems. Haloti Ngata, Ray Lewis and Terrell Suggs are going to attack the Rams line with the absence of Steven Jackson. The Rams will be forced to throw the ball and to date nobody has really stepped up to make the Rams effective through the air.

The Rams have only seven first downs running the ball and they are under 25% on 3rd down conversions, this simply is not good enough with the lack of talent on this team. The Rams have only allowed seven sacks but their has been constant pressure and hits put on Sam Bradford. In order for the Rams to beat the Baltimore Ravens they are going to need to give Sam time to throw in the pocket.

The St. Louis Rams are coming off a short week and will be without starters Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola again. The Baltimore Ravens will be in a foul mood after getting picked apart by the Tennessee Titans. The Ravens are going to stack the box and bring pressure throughout the game and they have just the personnel to do it.

Week 2 Suicide Fantasy Football Results

I am once again playing a great fantasy football game called Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker but you can only use each player ONCE during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

Well I smelled 100 points and guess what I got 100.86 points while using Matt Stafford, Michael Turner, James Starks, Andre Johnson,, Charles Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Mason Crosby and the Baltimore Ravens. If the Ravens could have found a way to shutdown Matt Hasselbeck I could have had a huge week. The 100+ points were good enough to move up to 38th place from 60th.

To get back into this league I am going to go with stars once again, no sense to hold back now. For Week 3 I am going with Phillips Rivers, Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy, Kenny Britt, Steve Smith, Jason Witten, Olindo Mare and the Tennessee Titans defense.

Wish me luck, and check out Suicide Fantasy Football.

Llywelyn’s St. Louis Rams Party

We had a great time Friday night at Llywelyn’s in St. Charles. St. Louis Rams wide receiver Danny Amendola came out to meet the fans along with Rams cheerleaders and Rampage. We enjoyed the evening with Ram Man, King Ram, Toni and other St. Louis Rams Ultimate fans. We all look forward to the big game on Sunday!

Rams vs. Giants Game Preview

Rams vs. Giants Game Preview

The St. Louis Rams will take on the New York Giants tonight on Monday Night Football. It appears the Rams have made great strides in becoming much better. In 2010 the Rams won 7 games and played the Seattle Seahawks on the final week of the season for a chance to get into the post season. The Rams have high hopes for 2011 and after almost 5 years will make an appearance on Monday Night Football.

The biggest key in this game is who will and who will not play. Steven Jackson is a game time decision with his quad injury but I would be surprised if he plays. With Danny Amendola out of the lineup Greg Salas should get the start in the slot. Sam Bradford will not only have to worry about his protection but he will also need to worry about who is going to get open and make a catch. Through the preseason and again last week in the Rams 31-13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles the Rams continue to drop passes. With Justin Tuck likely playing for the Giants the Rams nicked up offensive line will need to play much better than they played last week.

The New York Giants will still be without CB Prince Amukamara and DE Osi Umenyiora. The Rams must provide Sam Bradford with enough time to be aggressive and get the ball downfield to the wide receivers. Year after year we continue to wait for the vertical passing game to show up for the Rams. We can beat the Giants by throwing the ball down field on first down and on play action if Cadillac Williams can keep the Giants honest on the ground.

The Giants lost a tough one last week to their rival the Washington Redskins and are very disappointed in their effort. Eli Manning still walks in his brothers shadow and always will. Eli please come to grips with the fact you are nowhere near as good as your brother and you are not one of the top quarterbacks in the league. The Giants will be best off attacking the Rams with their duo of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw. The two combined for only 75 yards on 20 carries last week. Look for the Giants to attack the Rams linebackers and then work in playaction to Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham who will pose big problems for the Rams secondary that will be without Ron Bartell.

It is only week two so can this possibly be a must win game for the Rams? Well with all of our division games to play this is just another game, however it is very very important. The Rams need to prove to themselves and the league that they have the talent to win a game like this on national TV. It is time for the Rams to step up, run the rock, throw the ball deep and battle until the end for a victory. With the pissed off Baltimore Ravens coming to town next week the Rams better take care of business.

This is the type of game the post GSOT Rams do not win. I wish I could be more positive. I know the Rams can win this game but I just don't think they will. Again I will go to playmakers and the Giants have more and also have a huge home field advantage tonight.

St. Louis Rams vs. Philadelphia Eagles Grades

St. Louis Rams vs. Philadelphia Eagles Grades

Quarterbacks - C
Well I could almost get an incomplete here since Sam Bradford left in the 3rd quarter with a hand injury but I am going to grade them anyway. Sam Bradford and A.J. Feeley combined to go 18 of 35 for 209 yards, no touchdowns or interceptions. Both were under siege by the Eagles defensive line throughout the contest. Rams completed 10 balls to wide receivers which was a plus but drops hurt their overall efficiency.

Runningbacks - A-
It was a shame that Steven Jackson was hurt on his first carry of the game because he may have been on his way to a 200 yard day. Cadillac Willams was very good in the backup role averaging almost five yards per carry. The Rams had 154 yards on the ground a touchdown and five receptions for 49 yards.

Wide Receivers - D
Bottom line their were just too many drops. Austin Pettis & Denario Alexander were not even dressed for the game which is more of a coaching decision. Danny Amendola suffered a dislocated elbow which also did not help our attack. If Brandon Gibson and Mike Sims-Walker are going to help Sam Bradford they have to make more plays and catch every ball thrown their way. MSW had one catch for 5 yards that is not good enough.

Offensive Line - D
Without the 5.9 yards per carry I would have given this group an F. Again their number one job is to keep Sam Bradford on his feet and they failed at that task. The Philadelphia Eagles had five sacks and were constantly applying pressure throughout. Both Jason Smith and Rodger Saffold were nicked up in the contest. This line is getting paid too much to not provide a solid pocket for Sam Bradford. Pick it up guys!

Special Teams C
Well I usually give thee guys an A but Josh Brown missed a field goal which hurt momentum, Donnie Jones only averaged 42 yards per punt and put two into the end zone, and Danny Amendola muffed a punt. Kickoff coverage was solid and the Eagles did not have any punt returns. Jerious Norwood should see all of the return action with Amendola out of the lineup for a while.

Defense - C-
The Rams were able to sack Michael Vick three times and recover a fumble but they gave up too many large plays in this game and were not able to contain Vick. The Eagles ran for 236 yards and 7.4 yards per carry, had 403 total yards, put 31 on the scoreboard and were 8 of 12 on 3rd down conversions. Wide receivers were open all over the field and the cutback runs continue to kill the Rams. Chris Long please stay in your zone.

Coaching - B+
How much blame can you put on the coaching staff? The Rams came out on fire and jumped to an early lead. The Rams attacked the middle of the field and stayed away from the Eagles corners. The Rams ran the rock 26 times and had opportunities throughout but just did not execute. I can't put any of this on the coaching staff. Dropped passes, allowing sacks and being unable to run the ball in from the one yard line is a lack of execution by the players. My biggest issue with the coaching was their roster selection for the game.

Week 1 Suicide Fantasy Football Results

I am once again playing a great fantasy football game called Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker but you can only use each player ONCE during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

Week 1 was a disaster as I decided to play some scrubs first and save the bigger stars for later in the year, that plan did not work out well. I scored 49+ points which puts me in 60th place in the NFL Expert League. I am already 59 points out of first place. My Week 1 starters were Josh Freeman, Peyton Hillis, Jamal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, Mario Manningham, Owen Daniels, Jay Feely and the Cleveland Browns defense.

There will be no messing around this week I need to score and I need to score big! I am rolling out a lineup that I think will succeed and that has great matchups. I am going with Matt Stafford, Michael Turner, James Starks, Andre Johnson,, Charles Johnson, Brandon Pettigrew, Mason Crosby and the Baltimore Ravens. I smell 100 points!

Wish me luck, and check out Suicide Fantasy Football.

Rams Fall Prey To Eagles 31-13

What a beautiful day for football we had on Sunday. The sun was shining, the brats were grillin, and the fans were loud, fired up and ready for some football. The Edward Jones Dome was electric for the first time in years. There were beautiful tributes to the heroes and families of 9/11, and everyone was ready for some football.

The St. Louis Rams came out in dominating fashion in this one. The Philadelphia Eagles started the game from their on 12 and the Rams made short work of them on the first series, Chris Long ending their drive with a sack of Michael Vick on the 15 yard line. After a short punt the Rams were in business at the Eagles 47. The Rams game plan that should have included a heavy dose of Steven Jackson started out in just that way. On the Rams very first offensive play Steven Jackson took the ball over the left side and sprinted 47 yards for a touchdown and the Rams were up 7-0. The Eagles Quickly countered with their own 80 yard drive to tie the score at seven. The dome was still electric as you could just feel this was the day until...

On the Rams second drive they continued to pound the rock and moved the ball 50 yards to the Eagles 32 yard line. On the 10th play of the drive Sam Bradford fumbled while dropping back to pass, and Juqua Parker scooped up the ball and raced 56 yards to give the Eagles a 14-7 lead and the Rams were never able to catch up. This was the beginning of the end for the Rams on this afternoon.

The rest of the game featured the Rams trying to claw their way back into the game but they just never could come up with the big play. The defense struggled to contain Michael Vick who accounted for 285 yards through the air and on the ground. The Rams also were not able to stop the cut back runs that killed them throughout the preseason as LeSean McCoy ran for 122 yards on only 15 carries. The Eagles were far from sharp but they were still able to make plays. Michael Vick was only 14 of 32 but the Eagles had receivers running free throughout the Rams secondary the entire game.

The crushing blow in this game truly is not the loss of the game but the loss of many of the Rams star players. Steven Jackson left the game after only two carries with a quad injury. Sam Bradford left in the second half after injuring the index finger on his throwing hand. Danny Amendola went down with a dislocated elbow. The three main offensive weapons of the Rams went down it became harder and harder for them to move the ball. For the game the Rams finished with 335 total yards but it was just not enough. We also learned that Ron Bartell suffered two fractures in his next, Bradley Fletcher has a sprained toe, Jason Smith has a sprained ankle and C.J. Ah You hurt his wrist.

More injury updates and grades will follow. For now the Rams *MASH* unit and medics will try to get enough Rams healthy enough to go take on the New York Giants (0-1) in New York on Monday Night Football.

Eagles vs Rams Game Preview

First I would like to thank the thousands of men and woman in the military and that work as first responders all around the globe that keep us safe every day and allow us to go to NFL games with our families, we owe you and we thank you!

The word of the day is change. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams have made big changes since the end of the 2010 NFL season. The Philadelphia Eagles will feature eight new starters on defense, four new starters, at their positions, on the offensive line and a new defensive coordinator who was an offensive line coach for 15 years. The St. Louis Rams who were also very active in the free agent market will have four new starters on defense, and most likely four on the offensive side of the ball along with new offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Linebackers will have a huge roll in this game. Look for the St. Louis Rams to line up with their solid offensive line and attack the middle of the Eagles defense with Steven Jackson. The Eagles will start an inexperienced linebacker core featuring rookie middle linebacker Casey Matthews. The Eagles starting three of Mattews, Fokou, and Chaney are inexperienced and very small. The Rams must attack them, control the ball and keep the Eagles weapons off the field.

Although the Rams have improved their depth at wide receiver they will not scare the Eagles who are loaded at cornerback with Asante Samuel, Nnamdi Asomugha and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. With Michael Hoomanawanui most likely not playing a lot of pressure may fall on rookie TE Lance Kendricks. The Rams will need to buy enough time for Sam Bradford to make some plays. The Eagles are inexperienced at safety and the Rams need to use double moves as well as misdirection and screen passes in order to get bigger chucks of yardage.

On offensive the Eagles are explosive but the Rams are catching them at the best possible time. It will take the Eagles several games to bring together all of their new pieces. Michael Vick completed only 2 pass for 8 yards to DeSean Jackson in the preseason and Jeremy Maclin missed most of the preseason with an illness. For the Rams to be effective they will need to keep the Eagles off of the field. Third down conversions will be the key to this. The Eagles will strike with a ton of screens to LeSean McCoy, Ronnie Brown & Dion Lewis all with great ability in the open field. The Rams will need to tackle this trio and keep Vick in the pocket, easier said than done.

This is a game the Rams could and maybe should win. The Rams have 6 former Eagles on their roster along with head coach Steve Spagnuolo so they should be very familiar with what the Eagles will try to do. In addition the Rams had 43 sacks last year and the Eagles offensive line is going to struggle greatly early in the season. If the Rams can stay away from turning the ball over and also new outside linebackers Ben Leber and Bryan Kehl will need big games.

Overall this is a game the Rams probably should win in week 1, however I just see the Eagles getting bigger plays from their playmakers. The Eagles have four players on the field at all times that can take it to the house and that will be the difference in this one.

St. Louis Rams Captains For Week 1

The St. Louis Rams have announced their three Team Captains for their Week 1 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Three former Eagles Quintin Mikell, Danny Amendola, and Brandon Gibson will be this weeks captains. With coach Steve Spagnuolo previously with the Eagles along with these former Eagles players, the Rams may just have the edge they need to defeat the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

The St. Louis Rams players and coaches also voted on team captains for the 2011 season and they are; Steven Jackson as the offensive captain, James Hall as the defensive captain and Josh Brown as the special teams captain. Interesting that James Laurinaitis was not voted defensive captain.

Week 1 Suicide Fantasy Football Roster

I am once again playing the greatest fantasy football game, Suicide Fantasy Football. Every week you must select 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End and 1 Kicker but you can only use each player ONCE during the 17 week season! Scores accumulated from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.

There are a lot of unknowns early in the season so I am using some fringe players to get out of the box. We will see how this strategy works out for me. I am going with Josh Freeman at QB at home against Detroit who has struggle on the road for years. At running back I have Peyton Hillis against the awful Bengals and Jamal Charles at home against the Buffalo Bills. At wide out we have Dwayne Bowe also against Buffalo and Mario Manningham who should see lots of action at Washington. I have Owen Daniels at TE, Jay Feely at Place Kicker and the Cleveland Browns defense to round out my squad. Check in early next week to see how well I performed.
Wish me luck, and check out Suicide Fantasy Football.

Play Suicide Fantasy Football

I am once again playing Suicide Fantasy Football it is very different from regular fantasy football - you can only select each player once, throughout the entire season (which is a unique challenge, and has the added advantage that a bad pick won’t ruin your season). Please check out Suicide Fantasy Football some details below:

Suicide Fantasy Sports™ is the Next Generation in Fantasy Competition. The game takes the one-and-done theory of a suicide league and combines it with a traditional fantasy football league. Every week you pick 7 players for your team: 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, a Tight End and a Kicker. You can win $10,000 in cash or hotel, airfare, and 2 tickets to the Super Bowl in Dallas

Once you use a player for a week, you can never use them again. A bad draft doesn’t ruin your season. Your #1 overall pick getting hurt doesn’t eliminate you from the pack. You’re always in the game and every week you get the chance to prove to every one else in the league that you are the Supreme Suicide Fantasy Football Expert!

■Choose a league. Play against your favorite player and select the dollar amount and number of people that you want to play against.
■Choose a strategy (use the studs early or save them for the stretch run, home teams, players that are against the Lions or Rams, etc.)
■Select a team every week consisting of 1 Quarterback, 2 Running Backs, 2 Wide Receivers, 1 Tight End, 1 Kicker
■Every NFL player is available…but choose your line up wisely. You can only use each player once during the 17 week season!
■Scores accumulate from week 1 through 17 and the overall highest point scorer wins the league.
■Cash prizes are awarded for first, second, and third place along with the team in your league that scores the single highest weekly score during the entire season.

Rams Finish Purr-fect 4-0 Beat Jaguars 24-17

The St. Louis Rams finished a perfect 4-0 preseason with a 24-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday night. The Rams franchise went 4-0 in the preseason for the first time since 1979, which featured a Rams team that made it all the way to Super Bowl XIV. The Rams will now get ready to face off with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday September 11th to kickoff the 2011 season.

The Rams again played a solid game and got off to a good start with their starters. Sam Bradford who played the entire first quarter was 7 of 11 for 133 yards including a touchdown pass to rookie TE Lance Kendricks. The Rams gained 108 yards on their first two drives and jumped out to a 7-0 lead. A.J. Feeley entered to take over in the middle of a drive to start the second quarter and quickly threw a bad interception which looked like it may cost him a roster spot after Thaddeus Lewis's outstanding performance 12 of 15 for 164 yards. The Rams decide to keep Feeley over Lewis once the final roster cuts were made on Saturday.

The Rams led throughout most of the game and rolled up 419 yards of offense. The Rams once again had issues against the run mainly on cutbacks. The Jaguars were able to average 4.5 a carry while the Rams struggled to run the ball averaging 2.0 yards per carry. The Rams will have to defend LeSean McCoy and the rest of the Eagles rushing attack much better than they played at times in the preseason. The Rams will also need to try to control the game on the ground and overpower the smallish Eagles defenders.
